Dear Friends,

A whole world is open to you here at the website for Villanova Law. Every law school considers itself extraordinary, but as a veteran of several law schools I can tell you confidently that Villanova truly is extraordinary. For us, "community" is not a buzz-word; it is an ethos, something we strive to live every day. "Excellence" is not a meaningless platitude: it is the standard by which we measure everything we do. "Service" is not just a resume-builder, but a value at the core of our enterprise. "Justice" is not a vague ideal, but the goal toward which we orient ourselves as an institution and as professionals. As you explore this site, you will see the reality behind these words.

What will you find at Villanova Law? You will find much more than a conglomeration of unrelated specialties and separate programs. You will find a commitment to a coherent plan of general legal education offered by deeply engaged, accessible teachers. You will find a sophisticated advanced curriculum that will prepare you for practice in transactional law or in litigation, in a big firm or a small one, in a DA's office or a public defender's, in a federal agency in Washington or a general counsel's office in a large corporation, in an office on Main Street, U.S.A. or in a multinational firm in Paris or Dubai. You will find Villanova graduates in all those places. We take pride in knowing that Villanova Law prepares our students splendidly for any legal career they choose to pursue.

Overarching all of this, however, you will find a vision of practice in which outstanding practitioners couple their commitment to professional excellence with self-reflection, service to others and the dignity of the human person. We draw from our Catholic and Augustinian identity a belief that lawyers are empowered to do good in the world. We welcome to our community people of all faiths or no faith at all, and invite you to join us in all that we do.

Sincerely,

Mark A. Sargent, Dean
