Trial Advocacy Competition

The Trial Competition Team represents the law school in national and invitational mock trial competitions across the country. Students compete against teams from other law schools in simulated jury trials.  A panel of experienced trial lawyers and judges evaluate each student's performance and often provide critiques.

Villanova teams combine a sophisticated case analysis with a highly polished performance to produce excellent results. Our team members also excel at thinking on their feet, capitalizing on opportunities that arise during trial.  The 2008-09 team has gotten off to a great start, winning the Lone Star Classic, hosted by Saint Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas.  To learn more about the Lone Star Classic, and to view video highlights of the final round, please click here.

Members of the Trial Competition Team are selected by the coaching staff after try-outs at the beginning of the Fall Semester.  All second and third year students are eligible to try-out for the team.  However, interested students are strongly encouraged to try-out in their second year. Those selected are enrolled in Trial Practice Competition, a two credit course.  Team members must also be willing and able to commit the time, energy, and hard work that it takes to compete with other national championship caliber teams.

The team is coached by Assistant Dean Santee, and adjuncts Jennifer LaTour, Michael Lovell, Tom Moshang, and Carol Sweeney, all of whom are experienced and talented trial advocates.  For more information about the team, please contact Assistant Dean Santee.
